Formula: Specific Weight

Specific weight

Unit
The specific weight of a body or fluid depends on the gravitational force that the earth exerts on the body and it depends on the volume of the body. Thus, the specific weight is the mass density \(\rho\) weighted by the gravitational acceleration \(g\): \( \gamma = \rho \, g \).

Weight

Unit
The weight (gravitational force) is the product of the mass of the body and the gravitational acceleration: \( F_{\text g} = m \, g \).

Volume

Unit
The volume of a body (or fluid).
