The electric field \(\boldsymbol{E}\) generated by four charged electric point charges (two negative, two positive). By definition, the electric field lines start at a positive charge and end on a negative charge. When a test charge is placed in this electric field, it experiences an electric force acting on the test charge tangential to the field lines.
