When discharging the capacitor in a RC circuit, the voltage $$U_{\text R}(t)$$ at the resistor $$R$$ decreases exponentially:$U_{\text R}(t) ~=~ -U_0 \, \mathrm{e}^{-\frac{t}{R\,C}}$

The minus sign comes from the fact that $$U_{\text R}(t)$$ has exactly opposite polarity to the voltage at the resistor during charging.
