A negative electric charge, for example an electron, moves to the right with velocity \( \boldsymbol{v} \) into a homogeneous magnetic field \( \boldsymbol{B} \). The magnetic field is directed perpendicularly towards the screen (i.e. away from you). According to the left hand rule, the negative charge experiences a magnetic force (Lorentz force) downward.
