For example, to find out the direction of the Lorentz force \(F\) (middle finger), you have to align the thumb (e.g. current direction \( I \)) and the index finger (magnetic field direction \(B\)) as shown in the illustration.

Basically you have to know two of the three directions to find out the third (unknown) direction. You also have to pay attention to whether positive or negative charges are moving.
