Amontons law is the linear relationship between the pressure $$\mathit{\Pi}$$ and the temperature $$T$$ of an ideal gas at constant volume. In a pressure-temperature diagram, we obtain a straight line. Thus, the ratio of pressure to temperature is always constant:$$\frac{\mathit{\Pi}_1}{T_1} ~=~ \frac{\mathit{\Pi}_2}{T_2}$$

By extrapolation of the straight line, the absolute zero (0 Kelvin) can be determined in degrees Celsius (-273.15 °C).
