Amontons law is the linear relationship between the pressure \(\mathit{\Pi}\) and the temperature \(T\) of an ideal gas at constant volume. In a pressure-temperature diagram, we obtain a straight line. Thus, the ratio of pressure to temperature is always constant:$$ \frac{\mathit{\Pi}_1}{T_1} ~=~ \frac{\mathit{\Pi}_2}{T_2} $$

By extrapolation of the straight line, the absolute zero (0 Kelvin) can be determined in degrees Celsius (-273.15 °C).
