Electric field $$E$$ inside and outside of a plate capacitor. The plates are at a distance $$d$$. One plate is at $$x=0$$ and the other plate is at $$x=d$$. Between the plates the electric field is constant: $$E = U/d$$. And behind the plates the electric field is zero.
