The distance between the double slit and the screen is \( a \). The distance \( x \) is measured from the main maximum to some bright or dark interference fringe. The hypotenuse is \( h \). And \( \theta \) indicates at which angle the considered interference fringe is located. From this you can get the relation:\[ \sin(\theta) ~=~ \frac{x}{a} \]
