A body (e.g. an apple) held above the surface of the earth or another planet has a potential energy (position energy). The larger the mass \( m \) of the body, the height \( h \), as well as the acceleration due to gravity \( g \), the larger is its potential energy!

On Earth, the acceleration due to gravity is \( g = 9.8 \, \frac{\mathrm m}{\mathrm s^2} \).
